Yeovil Stompers - A brief history
1996
Leanne Middleton started a line dance class at Bucklers Mead School in October 1996. Over the course of the next 2 years, classes increased and went by the name of Lasso Leanne and the Somerset Stompers.
1998
Leanne won the 1998 British Line Dancing Championship at Wembley Arena and received her prize of a holiday to disneyland Paris from Lionel Blair.
1998 was also the year that Leanne started a line dance team.
Initially this was just for display purposes, but soon the team found themselves travelling to competitions.
1999
Leanne married Mark Rolls. The Yeovil Stompers display team formed a surprise guard of honour and the evening do turned into a mass line dance!
It was at this time that Leanne was forced to change the name of the club as another line dance club had registered the name.
So, Yeovil Stompers was born!
2000-2002
Leanne took short breaks whilst having daughters,
Poppy (2000) and Holly (2002).
2002-2009
The last few years have flown by, with fun classes and some great
social nights. Dancers have helped to raise thousands for charities through raffles and special charity events.
It wouldn't have been possible without some important people
who have helped me out along the way.......
Thank you to ALL OF YOU!
